How We Keep Our Residents Entertained at Gorselands

At Gorselands, we’re lucky to have an incredibly talented team of activities staff who continue to come up with new and inventive ways to keep our residents busy, engaged and entertained. Their ideas seem to be never-ending and we never quite know what they’ll come up with next.

For time spent around the home, they’ll frequently get our residents involved in arts and crafts, colouring in, flower arranging, gentle exercises, song and dance sessions and games such as hoopla or skittles. Some residents lend a helping hand when we’re baking cakes and the more green-fingered amongst them frequently join in with a bit of gardening too. More often than not, these activities take place in our spacious lounge or sun-filled conservatory but during better weather we like to do as much on the lawn as possible.

Our team also welcome a broad range of visiting entertainers – with favourites including Doorstep Entertainments, Retro Rita, Nick Sellers and Steve Linley. We’ve also had visiting accordion players, therapy horses, animal handlers, carol singers and a lovely pair of Chinese tea experts.

As if that wasn’t enough, Gorselands Nursing Home is lucky enough to have its very own minibus for outings to the wonderful New Forest and beyond. When the sun is shining, our activities team will often organise an outing to the garden centre, the seaside, or a nearby beauty spot – usually followed by a stop-off for tea and cake on the way home. Recent trips have included excursions to Christchurch Priory and Mudeford Quay, as well as a sailing up Southampton Water aboard the Alison McGregor.

So, as you can see, we certainly like to keep our residents entertained at Gorselands. If you’d like to find out more about our activities, follow our Facebook page for regular updates or send us an email at info@gorselandsnursinghome.co.uk
